Good introductory discussion of Chaos that doesn’t suck.

Prigogine on Video!

Order out of Chaos is one of the best books of any kind that I have ever read. Unfortunately, nothing on this page will give a sense of how profound and interesting that book is. Prigogine talks about Chaos theory, but not in the glib, simplistic and marketable terms that the public is used to. He is a physical scientist, and his points are sometimes hard to follow, but they reward attention with genuine insight into the real nature of things.

  1. I want to sin well on the side of content, and then start moving back towards a more balanced presentation. Have you ever seen Joe vs. The Volcano? There is this beautiful moment on the boat where Joe is talking about how he doesn’t want to get in touch with himself, he is really tired of himself, he is interested in getting in touch with something else. (I am really badly paraphrasing)

I want to get away from bloggorrhea, from my own fascination with my own voice droning on and on and on and on….

    and on…

  2. Exactly! Except that it isn’t paradoxical at all — it’s just dull. Like philosophy students writing about how knowledge is impossible. Or poets talking about how poetry is dead. Which is why I’m not writing a blog about how finding myself is uninteresting. Which is why this conversation is taking place in the comments section.

Ideally, in about a months time, the comments won’t be about modes of discourse (droning voice) they will be about the content that is actually on the site.
